My Friends Tigger and Pooh and a Musical Too! - DVD Review

If your kids love music, then they will surely love this film.  What’s more, who can ever resist Winnie the Pooh, Tigger and the rest of their Hundred Acre Woods friends!

My 3-year old toddler totally loves Playhouse Disney.  Some of his favorites are of course, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Little Einsteins, Handy Manny and My Friends Tigger and Pooh.  Unfortunately, when the channel was re-branded into Disney Junior, I was surprised to discover that the show, My Friends Tigger and Pooh, aired its series finale in February 2011, and will no longer be part of the new Disney Junior.

It was then that I decided to get my son a DVD copy so that he can continue to enjoy this show even if it’s no longer airing on TV.  When I discovered this DVD film, I knew it was perfect for my son because of his love for music. And true enough, it was an instant hit!

My Friends Tigger and Pooh and a Musical Too is a 60-minute full-length film based on the Playhouse Disney series, My Friends Tigger and Pooh.  The film featured 7 original songs which every kid will surely love to sing-along to.  Check out the songs, “One Big Happy Family”, “Bouncin’”, “Just a Few Simple Rules”, and “Underneath the Same Sky”.  These are just some of my son’s favorites from the film.

It was a perfect day for a picnic and Tigger and Pooh and their friends all had a wonderful time together.  Rabbit was responsible for organizing this get-together and to show their appreciation, the gang appointed him “mayor” of the Hundred Acre Woods.  Soon however, Rabbit, began to impose strict, rigid rules such as “no bouncing” (for Tigger), “no honey” (for Pooh) and lots more.  Some of the characters couldn’t stand the rules especially Tigger.  So they decided to divide the Hundred Acre Woods into two with Tigger as “mayor” of the other side.  Soon, however, everyone began to feel the sad effects of this division – friends being separated, no more fun and laughter to share with, no more great picnics to enjoy together.  Suddenly, everyone simply hoped that things will just go back to the way it once was.  But then Buster, Darby’s dog, got lost, and everyone reunited to look for him, which eventually made them all realize that they are indeed “one big happy family”.

The DVD also comes with bonus features such as an interactive game with “Rabbit’s Think, Think, Think Theater”, Kenny Loggins’ Music Video “Underneath the Same Sky” and Sing Along with the Movie.  There are several ways to watch this film:  Sing Along, Easy Play for the younger viewers and Active Play with your Remote Control for older kids.

Not only is this film entertaining, but it also presents the joys and importance of friendship.  I think that this is a good way to start teaching especially our younger kids to value and appreciate the friends they will have.

Plus, even parents will enjoy watching this film with their kids.  I already watched it a number of times with my son and I have to admit that I don’t mind seeing it over and over again.  I just love how the undeniably “Pooh-ish” elements of a heartwarming story, lessons on friendship, well-loved characters and great music can all be enjoyed in this film.

Keep Christ in Christmas: THE LIGHT OF HOPE

Reflecting on the 1st candle of Advent, the "light of Hope", I was reminded of a story I read as a child.  Most of my contemporaries would probably remember "The Little Match Girl" written by Hans Christian Andersen: It was terribly cold and nearly dark on the last evening of the old year, and the snow was falling fast. In the cold and darkness, a poor little girl with bare head and naked feet, roamed through the streets. It is true she had on a pair of slippers when she left home, but they were not of much use. They were very large, so large, indeed, for they had belonged to her Mother and the poor little girl had lost them in running across the street to avoid two carriages that were rolling at a terrible rate.
