A Reflection in Honor of the Feast of the Epiphany of our Lord Jesus Christ
Epiphany is a Christian feast celebrating the ‘shining forth’ or revelation of God to mankind in human form, in the person of Jesus Christ. The observance had its origins in the eastern Christian churches, and included the birth of Jesus Christ; the visit of the three Magi (Gaspar, Melchior and Balthazar) who arrived in Bethlehem; and all of Jesus’ childhood events, up to his baptism in the Jordan by John the Baptist. – according to Religionfacts.com
Perhaps we are all familiar with the three wise men who, upon following the star of Bethlehem, were led to the manger where the Savior was born. Gaspar, Melchor and Balthazar, were Persian priests and astronomers, often referred to as the 3 kings or the 3 wise men.
However, unknown to many, there is a fourth wise man named, Artaban. His journey in order to meet the King, the Messiah, our Savior Jesus Christ, is a story which I personally loved to reflect on over and over again. It has touched my heart so much.
